The present Call for Papers serves as an invitation for the submission of both paper and poster presentations for the 2006 National Conference on Child Health Psychology. Submissions are solicited for data-based paper presentations in the Topic areas highlighted below. Poster presentation submissions can be in any content area relevant to child health/pediatric psychology.
Family Systems Research in Child Health/Pediatric Psychology. Papers appropriate for this session will focus on research related to the reciprocal influence between family functioning and child health status. In addition, papers related to the coping, adjustment, and treatment of family members of children with chronic and acute health conditions, and family-based interventions in pediatric psychology will also be considered. Health Promotion, Prevention, & Obesity. Papers in this session will focus on research related to the promotion of positive health behaviors and the prevention of high risk behaviors or behaviors related to the development and/or maintenance of negative health conditions. Emerging Areas in Pediatric Psychology. Examples of potential topics in this area include research on alternative service delivery systems, infant mental health, bereavement & palliative care, cultural issues in pediatric psychology, public health approaches to pediatric psychology, and data-based research related to the business and viability of pediatric psychology (e.g. studies looking at medical cost-offset) as well as empirical studies in other rapidly developing areas. Pediatric HIV/AIDS. Examples of areas of research appropriate for this session include research examining the psychosocial impact of AIDS on children and adolescents; interventions targeting children/adolescents with HIV; and the growth and development of infants & children with HIV. Treatment Outcome Research and Randomized Clinical Trials in Pediatric Psychology. Papers in this session will be presentations of empirically based treatment outcome research. Randomized clinical trials and studies examining the dissemination of efficacious interventions will receive special consideration. Controlled investigations that consider cultural factors related to treatment outcome are encouraged.

Paper submissions, not accepted as podium presentations will be considered automatically for poster presentations. All abstracts for papers and posters should be submitted electronically as downloadable attachments (Microsoft Word or Word Perfect format) and suitable for website presentation, if accepted. It is anticipated that Power Point presentations of papers (in read-only format) will be made available on the conference website at the conclusion of the conference. Submission of an abstract indicates that the individual listed as the presenting author will attend the conference, pay the registration fee, and present the paper/poster if the abstract is accepted for the conference program.
